What shapes can be custom cut?
Anything you like. Really! The whole concept of custom cut is the idea that you’re in charge. A common choice for custom cut stickers is to cut around the finished shape of the design leaving no white space behind. A popular choice for custom cut stickers is cutting out creative typography. Quotes, slogans, lyrics, you name it, we can custom cut it! Our sticker sheets even allow you to feature a range of custom cuts. Include text, drawings, logos, and illustrations all on one sheet! There’s really no limitation to what you can cut.
How do I create and submit my artwork?
To keep things simple, we’d like two PDF’s from you; one page for your general artwork and another to show where you need your sticker to be cut. Doing this means that our studio team know exactly where you want your custom sticker cutting. In order to make sure both your files line up accurately, we recommend the following method;
1) Create your sticker design as normal.
• Our custom cut stickers are printed in CMYK on your chosen substrate.
• You can print in solid white ink as part of your design or use it underneath certain elements of your design to highlight important features or make text bolder. If you want white to be printed on a clear or metallic stock, you will need to have the colour as a spot colour and label it as ‘White’. If it isn’t labelled as a spot colour, our studio team will assume that you don’t want white printed.
• Alternatively, you can leave parts of your design without a white layer (transparent) to let the unique finish of the material stand out, this is ideal for our clear, holographic, and metallic stickers.
• We don’t recommend text that is smaller than 10pt.
• We don’t recommend stickers that are smaller than 1cm x 1cm. For more complex designs, 3cm x 3cm is a good size.
• If ordering for sticker sheets, you’ll be pleased to know that you can also print on the sheet’s background, leaving a design behind even when all the stickers have been used.
2) Duplicate your original design pages.
3) Create a new colour swatch. Set the colour name and the colour values to the relevant specifications.
Spot Colour Name: Cut
C:0% M:100% Y:0% K:0%
4) Create a 1pt stroke using the colour to show where you require your sticker(s) to be cut.
• Your cut line will need to have curved or rounded edges with no sharp corners as it will tear.
• Please note we need to allow for 1-2mm tolerance of movement when printing and cutting, so bear this in mind when creating your designs, especially those with borders.
• To get the most from your stickers, please leave a 3mm bleed from the cutter and a 3mm safety away from the cutter (we would recommend a block colour or a pattern edge from the safety line to the bleed area, so we are not cutting into the design).
• For sheet stickers, please remember to leave 6mm between each of your designs and 6mm from the edge of the sheet to your nearest sticker.
5) Delete any other elements you do NOT want to be cut.
6) Save your file as two separate PDFs.
Your artwork will then need to be emailed to artwork@route1print.co.uk for our team to check and approve following our free 30-point artwork check.
