Creative Vs Machine | Can A.I Really Improve Content Creation?

There’s been quite a bit of buzz in the media recently about advancements in A.I and one program that’s receiving a lot of attention in particular is ChatGPT. Released to the public in November 2022, this A.I tool has certainly created a lot of conversation and some businesses are already using it to their advantage.

So, what are the benefits of ChatGPT exactly? Are there any disadvantages and could it really be beneficial to you and your business when it comes to improving the content creation process?

Understanding ChatGPT

Created by OpenAI, Chat GPT is a free online A.I program that can write easy-to-read and detailed content. You’ve probably already come across a version of A.I chat online as various companies use them as part of their customer service communications. For example, Vodafone uses an A.I chat called Tobi that can answer simple queries regarding contracts and services to help reduce inbound calls to their customer service team.

How Does it Work and How Do I Use It?

After creating an account on the OpenAI website, you’ll be prompted to answer a few questions about what kind of material you will be using the program for. Once you’ve supplied this information you can start using the A.I functionality straight away.

ChatGPT generates text based on questions or commands inputted by users. If a user enters a prompt such as “Can you write me copy for a flyer advertising a florist?” into the text bar, ChatGPT analyses the input, and then confirms that it’s understood your request. It may also ask you further prompts or give you a summary of what you asked for.

How Can This Help Your Print Business?

Potentially, ChatGPT could help you save a lot of time that would otherwise be spent on researching ideas as well as writing and editing copy. The content it generates can be an excellent starting point to get inspiration for your projects, especially if you or your clients are struggling to come up with ideas.

The program can generate content on a wide range of topics, from technical subjects to marketing materials. All this copy can then be edited to fit whatever you are working on.
In short, ChatGPT can help you reduce the time spent producing content, which means you can devote more time to other aspects of your business that require detailed attention.

Potential Drawbacks

As exciting as this application is, it’s worth noting that ChatGPT is still evolving. The content provided by ChatGPT is based on data pre-2021 (at the time of writing this article), so if you’re looking for more up-to-date information, you‘ll need to consider other sources.

To get the most accurate and relevant responses from ChatGPT, providing clear and specific prompts is important. The quality of answers it gives largely depends on the calibre of input given. So, when interacting with ChatGPT, make sure to use relevant and specific keywords to help the A.I understand your request better. This will help when it comes to getting more relevant and accurate responses to your queries.

Keep in mind that your brand’s tone of voice is an important thing to consider when using ChatGPT. If you’ve gone to a lot of trouble creating a specific tone of voice for your business when interacting with customers, you should know that ChatGPT might not be able to mimic it perfectly. Try to use ChatGPT more as an inspirational tool to build on your own ideas rather than relying solely on the copy it provides.

Alternatives to ChatGPT

There’s a number of alternative A.I programmes available online at the moment such as Copy.ai. One of the advantages Copy.ai has over ChatGPT is that it allows you to choose a tone of voice for the content it generates, this can be helpful if you’re trying to stick to a certain business tone. Copy.ai also offers a selection of different templates that can be adjusted to fit the content you’re writing. Be aware that if you use this program, Copy.ai will require a paid for subscription if you go over 2000 generated words a month.

Jasper AI is another alternative, as it provides similar writing assistance and is a paid subscription-based service like Copy.ai. However, Jasper AI sets itself apart by offering customer support, which can be a valuable resource if you need additional guidance on how to maximise the platform’s capabilities or encounter any technical difficulties.
Jasper AI has some rather notable clients including industry giants such as Google and Intel. This is a strong indicator of the level of trust that leading companies have in Jasper AI’s ability to deliver results.

Our Thoughts

As programmes like ChatGPT continue to evolve and become more prevalent, individuals and businesses have an incredible opportunity to improve their productivity and streamline their workflows. Whilst these programmes can be highly effective in certain areas it is important to recognise their limitations.

If you’re thinking of getting rid of any Copywriters within your business and replacing them with Chat GPT that wouldn’t be our recommendation. One thing A.I will never really be able to do is understand nuance, context and any other constantly changing external factors which inform what you write and why. Ideation and creation are uniquely human attributes so when it comes to Creative Vs A.I Machine we feel pretty safe in the knowledge that our own brains will still strongly come into play.

We suggest using A.I in moderation to strike a balance between A.I-generated content and human input. By doing so, you can create a customer-focused approach that highlights human input as the primary focus, which is likely to resonate better with customers.
