How to Get Ahead of The New Year

We’re quickly approaching the Christmas break, a time for everyone to relax and enjoy the festivities, but it’s important to remember that January will soon come around and preparation is key if you’re in the print industry. That’s why we’ve put together a guide on how you can get ahead of the New Year with a little planning and preparation to set your year off on the right foot!

Reflect on Previous Years

Utilising what you already know is a great place to start. Looking back at previous years to see what products did well and at what times of the year will help you plan a successful strategy. It’s important to reflect on all areas when looking back, from successful products to profit margins, gathering as much data as possible will set you on the right course. It’s also a good idea to look at things that maybe didn’t work so well. Learning from your mistakes is the best thing you can do. Knowing what didn’t work and why will set you on the straight and narrow for a more productive year.

Tie Up Loose Ends

It may be a given but tying up those loose ends before heading off for a well-deserved break will make coming back a whole lot easier. From making sure your customer orders have all been signed off right up to scheduling your social media content, the more prepared you are for getting back to it in the New Year, the easier it will be to start cracking on with those all-important customer orders. Make yourself a checklist, spreadsheet or calendar, whatever works for you, and aim to jot everything down that you want to get finished before the year is out! You’ll remind yourself of exactly what needs to be done and if you don’t get round to it, you’ll at least be able to make a note of what needs to be at the top of your priority list when you return.

Set Goals

Setting goals for your New Year is a great way to set yourself up for a successful year. Knowing exactly what you want to achieve and planning how you aim to do it will make it a lot simpler to reach! It’s important to remember that when setting goals, you should be realistic. Consider what you’ll need to reach your goal and if it’s actually achievable in the first place. It’s great to aim high as long as it’s possible. Don’t forget to measure them too! Keep track of your goals throughout the year to make sure you’re on target and if not, adjust accordingly.

Make a Plan

A marketing calendar will become your best friend when planning for the New Year. Whether it’s for planning dates specifically for your business or the print industry or pencilling some themed days that you can market from, planning your year to come is a great way to get ahead. It’s also great for planning all your marketing activities. From teasers to launch dates, utilising a calendar to plan every last detail for your campaigns and marketing strategy will set you up well for the New Year!
